There was no script for this—just a thoughtful, human response.

A tragic shooting at a fast food location during a domestic dispute left a responding police officer dead. The incident was heartbreaking—and played out in real time across local and regional news. For the company it was a moment to respond with compassion and information.

Mower helped the client respond with urgency and care. We worked with law enforcement to understand the facts and timing of the event, and built a messaging plan that prioritized empathy for the officer’s family, support for traumatized staff and clarity for the broader community.

The company immediately offered assistance to local authorities, funded grief counseling and helped coordinate fundraising efforts for the officer’s family. Internal communications gave other store managers the context they needed to reassure employees and customers. The site manager’s quick thinking was also acknowledged—helping prevent an even larger tragedy.

The story remained in the news for several days and included coverage of the officer’s funeral that attracted law enforcement from across several states. Working closely with law enforcement, Mower was able to create a timeline that showed that managers at the location had taken appropriate steps to respond by contacting police and then locking down the location as officers responded.
