A new wave of nuclear energy is emerging as energy demand, and the need for dispatchable power, rises globally.

Support is strong. But pushback is inevitable.

Public support for nuclear power is up—77% of Americans say they support it today—but community opposition is almost guaranteed. When it comes to who’s backing and who’s fighting nuclear initiatives, it’s a mixed bag. Some environmental advocates who have historically opposed nuclear power plants now support them because of climate concerns. Some in the business community who have traditionally supported new nuclear power plants now oppose them due to budget concerns.

This isn’t your grandfather’s nuclear fight.

Today’s nuclear debate is different for many reasons. One of the biggest? Social media. Your biggest supporters and your harshest critics are online, with rapid-fire discourse at the ready. Our data shows that support for wind and solar remains high at the national level, but when projects are proposed locally, perceptions shift—support often gives way to concern and, in many cases, opposition. Expect the same for nuclear.

At Mower, we’ve helped guide the energy conversation for decades. We know how to engage communities, counter misinformation and break down every project and its impact.

Hey! Our name is pronounced Mōw-rrr, like this thing I’m pushing.
