The curious relationship between romance and sports was recently explored in a national survey by marketing communications firm Eric Mower and Associates (EMA) to help generate greater awareness of www.AreYouRomantic.com, the romance microsite of Caesars Pocono Resorts. Among its most interesting tidbits, the Sports Lovers Poll found that one in four men would give up sex for at least a month if their favorite team was guaranteed a Super Bowl win.
The Sports Lovers Poll was administered to 391 men and 235 women, (95 +/– 5%) Aug. 18-21, 2008, and asked sports fans and those in love with sports fans how their number-one team impacts life with their other half. From better lovin’ after a team win to postponing sex until the post-season, the poll determined that sports can act as the ultimate “delay of game” for warm and fuzzy couple time. In the weeks following the poll release, web traffic to AreYouRomantic.com has more than doubled. In addition, the poll has received widespread online and offline media coverage, including SI.com—the website of Sports Illustrated—Playboy.com, AskMenHealth.org, The Daily Star, Deadspin.com, the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Albany Times Union. Poll results were also promoted on more than 500 radio stations nationwide, including the Mike O’Meara Show, San Diego’s XX Sports Radio Morning Show with Scott and Billy Ray Smith, and Wall Street Journal Radio.
The Sports Lovers Poll is one of many ways EMA promotes AreYouRomantic.com, which provides site visitors with daily romantic tips, user-submitted stories, last-minute gift ideas, the “Blog D’Amour” romance blog, and a special romance quiz that allows visitors to enter a Caesars Pocono Resorts getaway sweepstakes.
