Rick Lyke Speaks on Crisis in the Digital Age

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Rick Lyke, senior partner at Eric Mower + Associates, will present on crisis communications at the Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) 2014 Southeast District Conference on April 10 in Charlotte at the University of North Carolina’s Charlotte Uptown Campus.

Lyke’s presentation, “When Bad Things Happen in 140 Characters: Crisis in the Digital Age,” will focus on how Twitter and other social media networks amplify and accelerate the spread of bad news, and have the potential of turning minor incidents into big news. As part of his presentation, Lyke will talk about the growing influence of social media in crisis situations, resulting in the new “information flow” that surrounds bad news.

A 30-year veteran of the PR industry, Lyke will also address the importance of a business having a crisis communications plan and how business leaders must adopt new strategies for communicating in the digital age.

The PRSA event has attracted more than 200 public relations professionals to Charlotte from the Southeast region for three days of learning from industry professionals and leaders.

Since joining EMA in 1983, Lyke has handled numerous crisis communications assignments and hosted crisis communication training for a variety of B2B and B2C companies.
