Peter Smolowitz has been promoted to management supervisor in the Public Relations and Public Affairs group at Eric Mower and Associates.
“Pete is the kind of PR counselor that clients and his colleagues at EMA want on their teams because of his smart thinking, attuned public relations sensibilities and strong journalistic skill set,” said Rick Lyke, senior partner at EMA.
Smolowitz joined EMA in 2008 as a senior account supervisor. In addition to leading both b-to-b and consumer client accounts, he has become a key member of the Charlotte media training team and an effective crisis counselor.
Smolowitz came to EMA from the Charlotte Observer, where he was a reporter for nine years. He was embedded with the 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan, and at the start of the Iraq war, he covered U.S. Central Command in Qatar for Knight Ridder newspapers. Before that, he spent time at the Philadelphia Inquirer and The Associated Press.
Smolowitz placed in the top 10 of the 2008 Associated Press Sports Editors awards for investigative journalism and in 2003 received the Society of Professional Journalists Green Eyeshade First Place Award.
Originally from Springfield, Mass., Smolowitz attended Syracuse University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in newspaper journalism.
