Niagara Falls Bridge Commission Connects with EMA

The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission (NFBC)—operator of the Rainbow, Lewiston-Queenston and NEXUS-only Whirlpool bridges over the Niagara River—has selected Eric Mower and Associates to provide public relations support.

Established in 1938, the NFBC’s three leading gateways provide more than 7.2 million vehicles passage between Canada and the United States each year.

“On a daily basis, the NFBC provides a vital service to thousands of people who use the bridges to travel between the two countries,” said Steve Bell, partner and director of Public Affairs in EMA’s Buffalo office. “At a time when the economy is still recovering, we’re excited to work with an organization that provides conduits for economic benefits to both sides of the border.”

EMA will help the NFBC develop communication strategies for traffic announcements and other important alerts during high-traffic sporting events, holidays and busy shopping seasons.

About the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission

A Joint Resolution of the 1938 U.S. Congressional Third Session created the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission. The Extra Provincial Corporations Act of the Province of Ontario, Canada licenses the NFBC. Canada and the U.S. are equally represented on the NFBC by an eight-member Board of Commissioners. Initially established to finance, construct and operate the Rainbow Bridge, the Commission proved sufficiently efficient and effective to assume responsibilities for the Whirlpool Rapids (Lower) and Lewiston-Queenston Bridges. The NFBC builds and maintains all facilities for Customs and Immigration functions on both sides of the international border. The NFBC is self supportive, largely through user fees (tolls) and private-sector tenant leases. NFBC is federally chartered to conduct international commercial financial transactions and issue federal (U.S.) tax-exempt bonds.
