New York Post, WCBS-TV, PBS Feature Analysis of America’s Biggest Political Story from EMA Senior Partner

When one of America’s largest newspapers wanted expert commentary and advice for the man who took over New York’s government in the aftermath of the Eliot Spitzer scandal, it asked Eric Mower and Associates Senior Partner Bob Bellafiore, a one-time AP political reporter and former press secretary to another New York Governor, George Pataki. Bob’s piece, titled “A New ‘Day One’: Get Set to Hit Hard,” led the Post’s op-ed page on Friday, March 14, 2008.

And when New York City’s WCBS-TV Channel 2, one of the most-watched news stations in the world’s media capital, wanted expert live commentary on the Spitzer resignation right after it happened, it also sought out Bellafiore. Bob was interviewed live on the noon news on March 12th, just moments after Spitzer announced his resignation. That afternoon, Bob provided analysis on cable stations across upstate New York via the Time Warner Cable network from the studios of Capital News 9 in Albany.

When Gov. Paterson was inaugurated March 17, Bob provided live analysis for all PBS stations across New York State from WMHT’s studios in Troy, NY. And when Gov. Paterson admitted the next day that he’d had extramarital affairs, Bob was sought out by one of upstate New York’s largest radio stations and the Albany area’s top-rated TV news station to analyze the Governor’s crisis communications strategy.

As EMA’s director of public affairs, Bob’s job is to provide insight, analysis and strategic communications counsel to EMA’s clients regarding policy matters and other issues that involve any level of government, as well as crisis communications counsel on a range of matters. Bob’s advice is based on 25 years in and around government at all levels – including tenure as an Associated Press statehouse reporter, as Governor Pataki’s first press secretary and later deputy chief of staff, and now as Senior Partner at EMA and partner-in-charge of EMA’s Albany office.

“When you shoot yourself in the foot – and you will – avoid reloading and aiming for the other foot. That’s what does the real damage,” Bellafiore said in his New York Post op-ed, a version of which was also published in the Buffalo News. “Self-inflicted wounds are far more dangerous than enemy fire. So think first.”
