Eric Mower Named Co-Chair for Business Council of New York State

Albany, N.Y. —   The Business Council of New York State announced Eric Mower, chairman and CEO of Eric Mower + Associates (EMA), and Karen Boykin-Towns, Pfizer Inc., as co-chairs for the Council’s board. Mower and Boykin-Towns will replace Thomas Tranter, who is passing the gavel after two years of service as board chair.

Mower and his firm have been active members of the Business Council for more than 30 years. Mower himself has served as Council board member, vice chair and has also served the organization in a variety of tasks ranging from member recruitment to program and event planning. In addition to his work for the Council, Mower has been involved in dozens of business, community and economic development organizations across New York State during his 48-year career. Mower was also named 2016 Member of the Year at the Business Council’s annual meeting

As the leading business organization in the state, the Business Council represents the interest of large and small companies throughout the state, as well as some of the largest corporations in the world, including IBM, Verizon and JP Morgan Chase. The organization’s primary function is to advocate for employers throughout New York state in policy-making and political arenas.

We are grateful for the wisdom and guidance Tom Tranter provided during his years of service as board president. Tom upheld the very high bar of past boards chairs and will undoubtedly be a continuing model for organization leadership. But with the help of Heather Briccetti and Karen Boykin-Towns, I am committed to continuing the Business Council of New York State’s exemplary work of advocating for businesses of all sizes across New York state.” said Mower.

At EMA, Mower serves as senior strategic and tactical counselor, and guides the agency’s overall policies, standards and practices. He was an early industry advocate for integrated marketing communications (IMC) by utilizing the combined forces of advertising, sales promotion and public relations in client programs and campaigns across a range of B2C and B2b categories. He is also very committed to the principles of truth, fairness and accuracy in business communications and chairs The Advertising Self-Regulatory Council (ASRC), the advertising industry’s self-regulatory system. He also serves on the board of the Council of Better Business Bureaus (CBBB).

Mower was an advisory council member for Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s “New York Open for Business’ marketing initiative, as well as the founding chair of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor Commission. He serves on the Advisory Council of Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication and is a life trustee for the university. Mower served for more than 20 years on the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A’s) board of directors and chairs the 4A’s Government Relations Committee.  He is also a past board member of the American Advertising Federation (AAF).
