Eric Mower Named Board Chairman of the National Advertising Review Council

Eric Mower, chairman and chief executive officer of marketing communications agency Eric Mower and Associates, was recently elected to a two-year term as chairman of the National Advertising Review Council’s (NARC) board of directors. NARC is the U.S. advertising industry’s voluntary self regulatory body that provides guidance and sets standards for truth and accuracy for national advertisers.

Mr. Mower will lead an eight member board of directors that includes representatives of major U.S. based corporations and leading global advertising agencies, as well as the American Association of Advertising Agencies, the Council of Better Business Bureaus, the Association of National Advertisers, and the American Advertising Federation. He succeeds Nancy J. Weise, director, worldwide marketing communications for Xerox Corporation, who served as chair of the body for five years.

Since its founding in 1971 the NARC has worked successfully to: foster brand loyalty by increasing public trust in the credibility of advertising; maintain a level playing field for settling disputes among competing advertisers; and minimize the need for governmental involvement in the advertising industry through responsible self regulation.

Mr. Mower is active in advertising industry affairs and contributes to a number of professional, public and community service organizations. Currently president of the 90-nation International Network of Independent Advertising Agencies (IN), he also serves as chair of the Government Relations Committee of the American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA) and is also a member of the AAAA’s national board of directors. Mower is a trustee for Syracuse University and serves on the Advisory Council of the University’s renowned Newhouse School of Public Communications.
