Carla Zimmerman, a management supervisor at Eric Mower and Associates (EMA), was one of 20 women to receive the Greater Syracuse 2008 “Women in Business” award on June 12 at the OnCenter in Syracuse.
The “Women in Business” awards program recognizes select women in Central New York who have helped their businesses to excel, while demonstrating a commitment to improving their community.
“Carla is an asset not only to EMA, but to the Central New York community as well,” said Chris Steenstra, EMA senior partner. “She is driven and truly cares about making a difference in any way she can—all while balancing work and family. We are proud to have Carla honored for both her personal and professional contributions.”
Zimmerman has over 20 years of experience in sales promotion, public relations and integrated marketing communications. She joined EMA in 1998 and is now responsible for strategic planning and account management, with a particular focus on new product launches and brand building.
As a leader at EMA, Zimmerman has launched the agency’s Wellness Committee and organized donations for the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association. She has organized a lunch series around a variety of wellness topics, ranging from exercise, stress reduction, and specific diseases such as breast cancer and heart disease, all of which have included guest speakers.
Zimmerman is a professional advisor at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and guides students considering a career in marketing communications. She also serves on the board of directors for the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Chamber’s marketing committee.
Originally from the Netherlands, Zimmerman earned a bachelor’s degree from Bard College in social sciences and foreign literature and has taken graduate courses in public relations and visual arts. She lives in Baldwinsville.
