EMA Garners International Publicity for Lost ‘Michelangelo Masterpiece’

For the last few weeks, Eric Mower and Associates has managed the media frenzy for a Tonawanda, N.Y., man who says a 16th Century painting he owns and spent eight years researching is an original Michelangelo masterpiece.

Major American and European television networks and stations, The New York Post, NPR, the BBC, the Associated Press, USA Today and AOL have all called EMA to investigate the story of the painting, thought to be the work of the world-renowned Renaissance master.

“It’s not every day that a client with a painting dating back more than 400 years calls needing media relations support on such a high-profile situation,” said Steve Bell, EMA’s director of Public Affairs in Buffalo. “From traditional day-to-day media to top-tier international and national outlets, this is a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to steer a client through what can only be described as media pandemonium.”

The story of the Michelangelo came to light earlier this month when the Sunday Times in London published an article about a new book – La Pieta Perduta, translated "The Lost Pieta" – documenting that the painting of the Virgin Mary holding the body of Jesus is indeed the work of the Italian master.

Respected Michelangelo biographer, art historian and art restorer Antonio Forcellino wrote the highly discussed book and believes the painting could be worth millions in the art world.

“I am totally certain that this is a Michelangelo,” Forcellino told ABC’s World News Tonight.

“Only time will tell whether we’re involved with a history-changing work of art,” said Bell.
